Based in Alice Springs this NT-wide project is another step towards a mental health peer workforce in the NT. The National Mental Health Commission will release Guidelines for the Peer Workforce in early 2021. More opportunities for peer workers are surely coming!

20 people with lived experience completed the project’s Foundations in Peer Work Training. 19 others are working hard to complete the Cert IV Peer Work skill set, the first time this training has been offered in the NT. The project has worked closely with Darwin’s PLEP project.

There is a lot of interest in peer work from sector organisations. Many have engaged with the Project’s Organisational Readiness program including CatholicCareNT, MHACA, TEMCHO, Headspace, Open Arms, Anglicare, TeamHealth, MIFANT, Mission Australia, DAS, TEMHS, CAHS and NTMHC.

The project runs until April 2021. Activities planned for the New Year include more peer training opportunities and a Forum on peer workforce development in Darwin in March.

Please register interest by email or text to the Project Worker, Ruth Apelt: 0427 285 123.
